Poetry Out Loud is a free, national arts education program available to all high school students in Pennsylvania. Students study some of the world’s finest poetry and ultimately take part in recitation competitions – all the while, students improve their public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and of course, learn about our literary heritage.

The 2014 Pennsylvania State Finals will take place on Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Governor’s Residence. To register your school for your regional contest, contact your local Poetry Out Loud Partner or email@example.com.
Poetry Out Loud is a keypart of PCA’s ongoing efforts to foster educational excellence for Pennsylvania’s students through participation in the creative process. To advance that effort, The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts collaborates with fourteen regional partners to administer Poetry Out Loud. Poetry Out Loud uses a pyramid structure, similar to the National Spelling Bee, that starts at the classroom level. Winners advance to a school-wide competition, then to a regional completion, the state finals, and ultimately to the National Finals. The National Finals are hosted by the program’s creators, The National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the Poetry Foundation.
