1. Adele

Adele is the outstanding singer-songwriter of her generation, and she always brings an intensity to her live performances. Though she has only released three albums in her career so far, each one has been hugely successful. Adele’s very first album, 19, came out in 2008, and won the Londoner a Grammy for Best New Artist while also topping the charts in the UK. Adele’s second album however saw her really become a superstar.

The 2011 album 21 was another number one in the UK, but it also gave Adele her first number one album in the US. 21 became one of the biggest selling albums in the UK of all-time, and it won a host of Grammy awards. To date, 21 has sold over 30 million, and Someone Like You and Rolling In The Deep were two of the album’s standout tracks. In 2013, Adele became the latest in a long line of talented performers asked to perform the title song for a James Bond movie.

The result was Skyfall, which achieved the rare distinction of winning a Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe. 2015 then saw Adele’s 25 become the latest successful album of her career, with the single Hello making history. It became the first song to pass over a million downloads in less than a week after its first release – and 25 itself was another number one on both sides of the Atlantic.

2. Coldplay

Coldplay are Britain’s leading rock band of the 21st Century – and arguably the world’s. Renowned for poignant songs such as Yellow and Fix You, and led by engaging frontman Chris Martin, Coldplay are a magical act live. Without the swagger of many rock bands, Coldplay can just rely on classic song after classic song to enchant their millions of fans around the world. The 2002 album, A Rush of Blood to the Head, is one of the outstanding rock albums of any era – and that really established Coldplay as a group at the top table of rock artists.

Coldplay’s career has seen them pick up many prestigious awards, including five MTV Video Music Awards and four Billboard Music Awards. While the group have also received a staggering 26 Grammy nominations, and been Grammy winners on seven occasions. The Coldplay albums X&Y, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, Mylo Xyloto and Ghost Stories also gave the quartet four successive number one albums in America.

3. Pearl Jam

As one of the first notable grunge groups Pearl Jam have become one of the must see live acts. Establishing themselves in one of America’s great music cities, Seattle, in the late 1980s, Pearl Jam’s debut album Ten stayed nearly an incredible five years on the Billboard chart. It was also an album that underlined Pearl Jam’s propensity to write about subjects that other bands wouldn’t dare touch, including suicide.

Pearl Jam’s success has been constant, with each of their ten studio albums making the top five in the US. Half of the group’s albums have also been number ones. Aside from their music, Pearl Jam are a band with a conscience, with environmental concerns in particular being very close to the band’s heart – while vocalist Eddie Vedder has also gained a reputation for not being been scared to speak his mind.

4. Dixie Chicks

Dixie Chicks have really broken the mold regarding country performers, both in terms of their music and their attitude, and they’ve managed to appeal to a wide range of music fans as a result. Dixie Chicks haven’t been content to stick to one specific genre and could best be regarded as alternative country.

The band’s last three studio albums have all reached number one in the US, and since 1991 Dixie Chicks have topped the US Country singles chart on six occasions. Dixie Chicks are also hugely popular in Canada, while Not Ready To Make Nice, Long Time Gone and Landslide are among their most famous songs. The group have so far won 13 Grammy awards in their career.

5. Luke Bryan

One of the leading country music stars Luke Bryan has enjoyed almost a decade of continuous success since he burst onto the scene in 2007. Bryan’s first album, I’ll Stay Me, rose to number two on the US Billboard Country Albums chart, and included hits Country Man and All My Friends Say.

Bryan’s subsequent albums were even more successful, with his 2011 release Tailgates & Tanlines not only topping the US country chart in America, but it also gave him success outside America for the first time. Bryan’s last two albums, Crash My Party and Kill the Lights, were again number ones, with no less than six singles from the former album being number one hits. Among the hit songs Luke Bryan fans can expect to hear live if they buy concert tickets are ‘Drunk on You’ and ‘Strip It Down’.
